Amid all the sweet plans of life with Clara, one life ended at three in the afternoon PDT on Wednesday this week. After two months of kicking between death and life, my grandmother, Mildred McDonald Boyer Johnson Orchette Danielson died at 96 years 2 months.

I remember of her home that smelled of Ivory soap, the breakfasts of thick fiberous hot cereal, the burbling fish tank and soaking teeth. She outlived all her husbands. She is survived by her older sisters, both over one hundred. Mildred was frail with a heart condition that dogged her for over fifty years.

I lit a candle of her favorite scent and bid her seek the light.
