Other haiku uses...

Renga. The haiku opens and continues a game, the opening poet writes a haiku, the next writes the completion of the tanka with two seven syllable lines, then the next writes a haiku. See the Renga in this forum for examples.

Haibun. First a prose piece or story is written, then a haiku is written after, capturing the mood or essence of the piece. There are haibun examples in my archive here at this site.

Haiga. Many have seen those Japanese paintings with the script at the bottom of the picture. Today's version often are photographs with the haiku written inside the photo or at the bottom, again the haiku captures the mood or the essence.

Picture challenge. This takes the haiku into another kind of game, besides a Renga. The challenger posts a picture and poets then write haikus to best capture the picture.

Word Challenge. The challenger places a word and the poets write a poem based on the word's feel.

Whatever you do with a haiku, have fun doing it...and lighten up!
