Mississippi Cried Yesterday
See I's be the first
In my family to graduate
Froms elementary school
Froms junior high school
Froms high school too
Helping big mama count her money
She be doing her bess
Ta help take care of me and my brothers
But like anything she has less
To give and lot mo worries without
Ours mutha an fathers
Big mammas teeth need tending
Lord knows she is a hurtin
And since she get lil assistance
Its us who tend the fields that need working
Big Mama dun fix a meal for a family
Trying her bess ta make some money
But they be cheatin her
Cause she make less den
What it coss her
Big mamas children aint bout nothing
They take constant and dont give
And be leaving the burden ons her
As she be sitting in her chair watching
Life pass by her
Its so rough we walk miles
Barefoot or wit socks
For water that does not run here
But continues everywhere
Carrying 5 gallon buckets
In big mamas car
Seeing how long this gonna last
Hoping it will takes us far
Cause we cook clean bathe
And flush the sewage
Down here we stay at
Waiting for dis American dream
Dat we so called been promised that
I saw day fo yesterday that
Day be dropping food on dem a- rabs
Giving some medicine to day chilrens
And I been sick long time
Dat big mama jus give
Me cough syrup fo any thing
An she say lay down baby its gonna
Be alright
So I guess dat I can
Thank god for my health
Like day say on the TV.
But its hard when
By tummy is just
Filled with unknown food articles
As I am surviving
Is often wonder why day dont be caring
But us down here cause
We are hungry
And we semi homeless
An we dont have a ma an pa
Tendin afta us kids
Cant understand da states igrance
But now that I have graduated
I am appalled of this lifestyle
Before I was educated
To see the poverty as it bleeds
Across the so called richest country
Give us free
The anthem of ancestors before me
Taken and segregated from the mother country
I thought we were ascending
However, we are descending
As this land does not realize the offending
Ways of starvation
And frustration
Someone drop some food on us
Are we not suffering in a slow holocaust?
May I suggest we get this money?
Due back from the rebuild
Of those adversaries
Conquered gracefully
And accepting our help gladly
With the thought eventually
To bomb the U.S. whole heartedly
So they know
We still have the control
Wake up from these ridicules
Ideas of thinking
As long as we play big brother
No one will be faking
The love for our country
While they lay in wait
To seal and desecrate our fate
Mississippi cried
In order for
America to see her tears
And for them TO
Take care of our own
Instead of the world for years
