Gravity
Pulls me down,
But I'm not a willing victim,
And I won't be ignored
For very long at all--
So if you wanted meekness,
If you wanted someone who'll Fade
Elegantly into the background,
Baby, Sweetheart, Angel Eyes,
You picked the wrong girl,
Because just because I look innocent,
Doesn't necessarily make me so.
Sometimes you smile
And then act like someone else,
And I don't know who's real
Or who's imaginary,
And I'm sure you'll admit,
That can be more than a little bit
Confusing
And Confounding,
Considering your 'what you see
Is what you get,'
Profession.
Why is it so difficult for you
To understand?
These are simple things
On paper wings,
But you feign complex aversion--
Is that just another pretty excuse,
A diversion from the real crime?
Your words don't match your actions,
And your excuses mingle politely
With all your well-spoken lies,
And you know it's no wonder
That I believed them,
Swallowed them down
Hook, Line, and Sinker,
Like a fool who hasn't eaten
Honesty for a while,
And cannot quite remember
If the taste is correct or not--
I am my own worst enemy.
I do not suffer from betrayal,
Because it's more like misinformation,
A miscalculation on my part,
And I suppose I overestimated
The power of my eyes,
My words,
And a hands free, honest smile--
I am nothing if not blatant.
This moment walks in extremity,
Existing and subsisting in the middle
Of the road,
With dusty chances chasing dreams,
From one extreme
To another--
I am beyond playing games.
I won't smile pretty
And pose for this picture,
Because this is not the image
That I was trying create--
I'm not trying to condescend,
But if I could transcend,
That would certainly be nice,
Because all these lines have gotten blurry,
And it's high time I rose above this,
And experienced a new point of view.
I think it's time to see you
Without all your finery,
Without your facade,
And without the knowing mask
That you try to wear so well,
But illusion is often so unbecoming
To those that bear an unused
But honest soul,
Buried beneath all the knowledge amassed
Just to keep alive,
Above and beyond all the mess,
All the wounds made possible
And plausible,
Had your heart been too soft,
And your skin a little too thin--
No, no, no,
You learned how to be,
Without really being who you are,
If only to come out of the fire
That was your life,
Nothing more than slightly charred.
But remember this above all else:
Beauty is not found in lies,
Deception is not charming evening wear,
And if your smile fades,
I may just lend you mine,
Because I always have a spare,
And what you call weakness
Without the words to do so,
I call compassion,
And even though you are far away
From yourself,
The part of you that's hidden,
I could find you in a heartbeat,
Gravity be damned.
